RSS means “Rich Text Summary” but it also means “Real Simple Syndication”.
An RSS feed is an XML files which is automatically generated by a website or blog. This file will enable you to be informed in real time when a new article is posted on a blog.
In order to be able to read this file, you will need an application which is called an RSS agregator. There are a lot of these applications to choose from. Some RSS agregators can be installed on your computer, some can be accessed directly from the internet.
Personally, I like using the online RSS Agregator called Netvibes, which FAQ will tell you how to start using it.
If you prefer installing an RSS agregator on your computer, here is an example with Feedreader.
- Téléchargez et installez Feedreader
- Click on the Fairweb RSS logo and copy the url from your navigator’s navigation bar.
- Open Feedreader
- Click on Files then on New then RSS feed
- Paste the url under “Add a feed” (for Fairweb, l’url est http://www.fairweb.fr/en/feed)
- Click OK
- Click on Fairweb which should appear in the left window : a list of the lastest posts appears. You can click on any of them to view a summary of the article and you will be redirected to the full article when clicking on its title.
- When a new article is posted on Fairweb, Feedreader will warn you if it remains active on your computer.
You may add as many RSS feed as you want from any website offering RSS. This logo
means that the website has an RSS feed.
